Course Objectives
- Understand drone components and system basics
- Learn FAA rules and airspace fundamentals
- Practice safe takeoffs, landings, and maneuvers
- Perform pre-flight checks and recognize system alerts
- Build a foundation for advanced or specialty training
In addition to hands-on flight fundamentals, this course introduces the core science and decision‑making behind safe and effective drone operations. Students will explore battery management and power safety, key UAS components and their functions, emergency procedures, and the basic forces of flight—including airfoil dynamics and aircraft behavior. We will also cover introductory mission planning, weather awareness, and airspace considerations to help pilots understand not just how to fly, but why drones behave the way they do and how to operate them responsibly in real‑world environments. After some classroom theoretical presentations, we will go outside and fly practical scenarios to build confidence.
